O.P. Anderson
Brief Story of O.P Anderson Spirit
Olof Peter Anderson, also known as 0. P., was born in 1797 in Trollhattan, a small town with almost nothing to offer except waterfalls. O.P. moved 40 miles south to the west coast metropolis of Gothenburg when he was about 17 years old (known as "Little London"). He began his career as a pharmacy apprentice.
Olof Peter Anderson started a spirit distillery at the age of 24 and married the allegedly busty Petronella Rosenhoff seven years later. They had six children together, two of whom died mysteriously at the age of 19: Otto (the firstborn) and Uddo (the lastborn).
Given the number of Swedes who claim O.P. Anderson as an ancestor, you'd think he had at least sixty children. He was a shrewd, high-ranking businessman. Up until his death in 1876, he owned properties in Gothenburg's inner city, was a ship owner, and ran a hardware store, but he still found time to make and sell a lot of spirits, which were consumed like any other grocery item at the time.
Carl August Anderson, his father's well-prepared son, took over the reins of the spirit factory after his father's death. After that, he put a lot of money into modern distillation technology. His new state-of-the-art factory had the capacity to produce 4,000,000 litres of spirits per year once it was up and running.
Carl August, like his father, had a thousand irons in the fire. He was not only the distillery's manager, but also a member of the city council, a board of directors, a volunteer firefighter, and, when cholera struck in 1850, the manager of Gothenburg County Council's specially-established cholera unit.
In 1891, at the Gothenburg Industrial Fair, he introduced the first Swedish aquavit, which he named after his father, O.P. Anderson. Since then, the aquavit has shifted from potatoes to wheat, and O.P. Anderson has only used organic ingredients since 2002.
O.P. Anderson is deeply rooted in Swedish celebratory traditions almost 125 years after its launch. It's a cultural icon, and it's one of the first alcoholic beverages that fathers proudly serve their barely-bearded sons and daughters with pop-band posters.
Why is it a great choice?
O.P. Anderson is a grain distillate seasoned with caraway, aniseed, and fennel and has a 40% alcohol content. After distillation, it is aged for six months in massive oak barrels. The Gold Outstanding 2019 award for Golden Aquavits goes to O.P. Anderson Original Aquavit. "Light, elegant, and well-focused on the nose, with aniseed and peppery notes, followed by golden syrup, demerara sugar, and hay."

While it's undeniably spicy, it's creamy on the nose and emphasizes some of the botanicals' lighter, fruitier aspects. Anderson, O.P. Aquavit is smooth, balanced, and one of the easiest aquavits to drink out of all the ones you'll try.
Overall, O.P Anderson has a fresh aquavit flavor with a round dill flavor and a spicy citrus note. The nose is creamy and fennel-forward. Vanillin, toasted fennel seed, caraway, and even toasted dill seed are all present.
The best way to serve O.P.Anderson is at room temperature or slightly chilled. It's usually served in special long-stemmed glasses in Sweden, but regular shot glasses will suffice. Like all aquavits, it's frequently served with lager and is sometimes referred to as a "chaser."
