Bommerlunder is an Aquavit made by our German friends at Berentzen. Produced from grain and then flavored with caraway seeds and other spices, this is especially delicious when served ice cold. Aquavit, literally translated as “water of life”, is a traditional pale grape or grain spirit first distilled centuries ago in the pastoral regions of Northern Italy, France, Sweden, Iceland and Denmark. The best known brands are the Danish Aarlborg, Swedish O.P. Anderson and Norwegian Gambol of Linie. This latter is a specialty spirit which is carried across the equator by Wilhelmsen liners on return voyages to Australia.
