There is a beautiful story behind the Lindeman's wine brand. Its founder was a physician, Dr. Henry J. Lindeman. Just after graduating, he left London's St Bartholomews Hospital to travel across Europe. He liked the Mediterranean life with olive oil and fine wines and he thought that residents around the Mediterranean looked a lot healthier than his pale compatriots in London. In 184 the adventurous doctor moved to Australia with his wife Eliza. In his rural practice, he was shocked by the poor health of the settlers. Wine, he thought, could be healing. So, in 1843 he planted his first grapes at Cawarra in the Hunter Valley, made wine from them and prescribed them to his patients. What was once intended as a medicine is now a 'means' to enjoy.
